#MondayBlogs The 131 Preview Review Interviews Isaiyan Morrison Author of The Deamhan Chronicles @isaiyanmorrison & @shannonihayes

Isaiyan Morrison was born and raised in Minnesota. She moved to San Diego, California while in the Navy. After serving four years of active duty, she moved to Los Angeles.

Besides writing, she also likes to read, surf the internet, watch movies, and play video games. She likes warm drinks, pico de gallo, and her love for cilantro is legendary.

Her vampire novel Deamhan, the first book in the Deamhan Chronicles, was accepted for publication by Rainstorm Press for release in mid 2013. The second book, Dark Curse, is scheduled to be released on August 12th 2014

Here we are again it's been nearly a year since I read the first book Deamhan, and now we're back to chat about Dark Curse, the second book in The Deamhan Chronicles.  It's great to have you back, technical difficulties aside.

It's good to be back!

I was rapt from the first page, I have to say that it plays out from the start rather sadistically.

Yes, I wanted the second novel to pick up where the first novel left off. Veronica now knows what happened to her mother all those years ago. She suspected her father had something to do with it and she gets her answer.
Nathan has become a somewhat trusted friend and she decides to stay in Minneapolis just when other things began to boil to the surface.

Yes, there's lots of drama awakening in the city, vampires moving in on Deamhan turf and what not. Anastasia gets a far larger role in this one as well. We get to a large part of her back story, seems she's developing something of a conscience. Which I find rather interesting.

Anastasia has always been one of my favorite characters to write because of that exact fact. She's a character that will go through tremendous growth in the Deamhan Chronicles.
I like writing characters who have to go through some kind of change in the end.

It certainly makes them more believable in an unbelievable world. Will she be getting her own tale much like Kei? I see on your website that you wrote him a novella that you offer for free!

Actually I've planned for Anastasia to get her own length novel in the near future.
Think of these novels as the novella I wrote about Kei but obviously, longer in length.
Her history is much more diverse, longer, and complicated than his own.

Ooh... *giggles with glee* I'll be looking out for that.

I'm expecting these to come out sometime next year.
I've already written one about Maris. If you remember, she is a new character introduced in Dark Curse. She was sired by Anastasia and has a direct connection with the Dark Curse Tablet

Yes, I remember her, I'm surprised you would write her's first, being such a new character. Why did you choose to continue there first?

I wanted the first of these novels to be about Remy.
However, the Dark Curse is extremely important to all Deamhan and with Maris' direct connection it, I thought that writing about this subject would lay down a path for readers to follow. Also her relationship with her sire, Anastasia, is rocky and almost non existent.  So as the threat of vampires grows, they both have to deal with their hatred for one another and eventually push it aside.
Also majority if not all the characters are tied into the Dark Curse, including the human characters like Veronica and Kenneth.

     I don't like Kenneth

I don't either lol. But hey, every novel needs an antagonist, right?
Actually, I hate writing about him but he came out perfectly. He is who I want him and need him to be

YEah he antagonizes me right into wanting to rip his weenie little throat out.

Oh well I think you'll really loathe him if you decide to read the third book in the Chronicles. I'm currently writing it.
His personality doesn't improve much lol

You know I'll want to! That's slick dangling that in front of me!!

I do hope that it's to your liking.

You make a point of kicking up the carnage in this book, there's quite a bit of blood splattered on the pages, how do you amp yourself up for writing those scenes?

I think about exactly what the scene is trying to do. In those cases, I wanted to reader to understand how violent Deamhan can be, not only to their own kind, but to humans as well.
Deamhan are violent creatures and I have to show that. Just writing it for the reader to read isn't enough. Showing versus telling so to speak.
I have to also be careful as to not go overboard. I don't want gore for the sake of it. If someone is getting their throat ripped out, I want to make it as believable as possible without the reader feeling disgusted.
It's hard to do.  So basically I think of "what would *insert character* do?"
If it's Anastasia-I know she can be extremely violent and uncaring. But she's growing a conscience so I need to show that as well.

Hence the WWDD? Running across the Dark Curse Book Trailer?

What Would Deamhan Do? It's a statement and also a note to remind me that I have to keep it in mind
And there are times when I honestly don't know what they would do

Apparently they do what they gotta do... I was pretty emotional in the beginning with the two little girls. It was heartbreaking, and I guess heart starting, since it was the real turn for Anastasia's character as well.

Yeah, that scene was a little hard for me to wight.
The first version had Anastasia taking the two girls home with her. But as I thought about it, I had other important characters in the story and I didn't want too many
In the second version Anastasia let them go but when I finished the novel I decided that I needed a trigger for her-to show that she was starting to rethink about what Lucius wanted her to do. So I decided to have her kill the girls instead.

There are more scenes in which she and Lucius destroy sanctuaries and in doing so, it's starting to take a toll on her.
She's also someone who doesn't speak about her emotions so it's hard for her to explain how she feels. Because the emotions of Deamhan are hard to figure out.

It was the only real thing she could do, the rational choice. You do a pretty good job of showing her frustration even in the face of displeasing Lucius. She really does get tossed in the ringer. But then you calm it all down using Remy as an anchor, comic relief and occasional punching bag,

Anastasia and Remy have this weird chemistry thing going. I don't think they'll ever like each other. They only deal with each other because they live under the same roof.
He knows what pushes her buttons and how to get a reaction out of her. He's sly like that

Yes, yes he is. I like him very much, It seems as though he was fun for you to write

he is extremely fun. I don't know what it is but when I write any scene with him in it, the process is much easier. I struggle with some characters: Hallie and Nathan to name a few. But with Remy I feel that the story just flows out of me.

Sometimes when I feel stuck, I go to my outline and start writing his scenes. It usually helps me.

Psychologically I think he's like your Id. That free child that does and says what it wants to. Doesn't care about repercussions and really just welcomes any outcome so long as it's interesting. Where as a character like Nathan, is the Ego, The Adult, proper and trying to stay in control.

I guess that shows something about me!
Wow, I never thought about it in that way. It's probably true. I do feel "free" when  I write anything Remy related

And that concludes that insightful part of our chat.. lol

     He's a pip
You're humans are a mess, but that'st to be expected.

Love it!

You manage to keep them vulnerable even in a place where they should be all locked up and hiding for their lives. I really do think you have a great little series on your hands

I do hope so as well.
In the beginning I just wanted to write a "vampire" novel that showed psychic vampires instead of sanguine vampires. What I got is a whole new race of vampires with their own history, agenda, relationships, personalities...
For the most part Deamhan Chronicles are extremely fun to write.

They are just as fun to read I assure you! With two full novels under your belt, the novella and the third on it's way what do you do to unwind... Is there even time?

But when I do have the time, I like to sit back and watch my favorite tv shows on my xbox. That way I don't have to sit through all those boring commercials.
And I read but I haven't been reading that much lately.

My reading actually picked up after I picked up Dark Curse! It was my first book since coming back to doing the 131 and moving out here to Ohio. I was glad I got the opportunity.

I'm glad that you decided to read it! Thank you so much!
I'm also happy that you're honest and you took the time to give the first novel a shot.  Thank you!

Anytime!! What's on the agenda right now for you, besides finishing the third novel?

Well, I'm currently on Winter Break from school and my boyfriend just bought me an XboxOne. Besides writing I love to play games. So we're going to have a gaming weekend.
No writing. No reading. Just gaming.
Sounds unproductive but it's vacation time that's much needed!
After having my video game fill, I'll be back at writing again. I hope to get the other Deamhan book released by April of next year. The novel is finished and edited. Just working/deciding on the cover art.

There's nothing unproductive about gaming. I'm a D&D junkie as well as a WWE Smackdown vs Raw addict. Although I mostly use the create a character modes to do 3d renders of my many book characters.
It helps the writing process immensely!!

I think I heard about that from somewhere. Creating 3d models for characters.
I do agree. Some video games have interesting storylines as well

Yes I've heard that somewhere..... LOL
Are you doing any special sales for the Holidays? Something I can give a big ole push to for you?

Well I just finished a book giveaway on Goodreads.
I have another one starting on the 8th until th 15th booklikes for both Deamhan and Dark Curse

Do you have links?

Let me check

Got it!
I got the dates wrong.
This is the one for Deamhan.

And here is the one for Dark Curse

I think these links will still be good when the giveaway starts. I'm not entirely sure. I haven't done a giveaway on booklikes in a long time
But I'm giving away 20 e-books of Deamhan and 30 of Dark Curse

Yeah, well it's better and a lot cheaper than the Goodreads Giveaways. Man, I spent $40 dollars sending the prizes out lol
I can't do that every two weeks, you know?
So I thought trying ebooks. See how that works.

Nothing wrong there, I'm doing Pre-orders of my latest novel, releasing it at .99. Then after the new year it'll go up to 3.99. Figuring that maybe a sale out of the gate would do it some good. We gotta be on top of stuff like that as Indy Pubs

True. Hopefully Dark Curse will get more reviews.
How many reviews it gets will affect the release of the other novel. I don't want to ignore Dark Curse. I need to give it more time.

Well I do hope it will, I hope that my Review helps.  Have you anything else going on you'd like to share before we go to our Xboxes for the night. LOL

But at least,so far, the reviews are pretty good. Can't complain about that
lol. Umm no, I think that's it. I will let you know when the other novel is completed, in case you're interested in reading it as well. Completed as in cover art finished

So Good books circulating, A great little giveaway and talks of a third installment of The Deamhan Chronicles. And Baiting me with cover art.... I think you managed to cover all the bases!!!

I think so to!
Thank you again for the interview. I appreciate it.

It's been great reconnecting!! I will be eagerly awaiting the ARC of the Third Book.. BTW What will this one be called??

It's titled "Maris. The Brotherhood Files"
I do have the blurb, if you want to read that?

I'll be glad to post it!!

"Maris. The Brotherhood Files"
She gave me her blood, and my life changed forever.
Anastasia. My sire. The only influential figure in my already-fragile life. She did this to me. She caused all the pain and suffering. There was a time I believed I owed her everything. After all, she gave me immortality and the never-ending thirst for the energy contained in the blood of my victims.
But now vampires hunt me and the humans want to use me as their personal weapon. They believe I'm some kind of apotropaic figurine that can damn all Deamhan and force us back into hell where we belong. Me? I just want to live. I just want to be Maris. That way, the only one I can damn is myself.

Nice!! When it's ready I'll be happy to do a Spotlight with Cover reveal if you'd like!

Thank you!
Yeah, I'll let you know. Like I mentioned, the book is done. Cover art, no so much

It takes time, I know, I do all my own cover work. Anyhow, Isaiyan it has been a great pleasure. I do with you a great night and A Happy Holidays!.

Isaiyan Morrison

The In Dreams... Series, The Roads Trilogy, is the accumulation of almost eight years of writing. Begun in 2006 after a D&D campaign

Shannon spent many months at a time in an undiagnosed Bi-Polar fog.

In 2010, she finally found the help she needed and she has been writing feverishly ever since

The first book wast over 130,000 words, so she decided that it needed to be smaller if only tonot scare readers away form an unknown book that was so thick.

Thus the first trilogy was born.

In between she became the CoAuthor to Awakenings: The Wrath Saga, a Paranormal Drama likened to Big Brother Meets The Real World, of the Preternatural, Several blogs and her own website.
