Allan Charles Wellborn has secretly adored Hattie all his life. He evolved from a pocket protector-wearing geek to a handsome police detective. When the police determine there's more to the death of a former Buy Rite employee, he steps in to lead the investigation. Overly dedicated, always perfect, he puts his job first, even if doing so ultimately hurts the one he loves.

The description tells a lot of what I read in the first 131 pages. But it doesn't tell you how ridiculous and on point some of Hattie's internal dialogues are. She's klutzy when she's trying hardest to impress a guy.
Something I'm sure more than one woman is guilty of. From pantyhose wrapped around her boobs to flinging herself across her own hall way rug. this girl is a mess around Detective Allan Wellborn.
When it comes to her job the woman is on point. Even if it is at the most tedious, Buy-Rite Insurance Company. The author makes it painstakingly clear just how redundant and monotonous the "Customer Service" job is. From filing to photocopy, Hattie's take on it all occasionally makes for an eye roll.
But if you've ever had a Temp Job, you find yourself saying, Yupo that's it... She's nailed that!
Hattie's relationships with BFF's is like any, they goad and prod each other about guys and her friends are especially curious about Wellborn, seeing as they all remember him before he got contacts and started working out. Back in the day he was the Pocket protector, horn rimmed glasses wearing older brother of a mutual friend. But now he's Detective My-T-FINE.
One who shows up at your door step with Pizza and stolen car-parts that disappear.. You gotta read his mini meltdown! It's adorable.
These two characters do well to remind us how much fun fumbling around to get together can be. If you're looking for a comical romance with a side of Who-done-it, I suggest picking up Temporarily Employed From Vicki Batman.
