The 131 Preview Review Presents
The Deamhan world is in disarray. Freed from Limbo, Lucius, the once feared and Ancient Lugat, goes on a killing spree to wipe out any remaining traitors in the city of Minneapolis. Meanwhile The Brotherhood's return along with the growing population of vampires riles up the remaining Deamhan who choose to stay behind rather than abandon the city.
The body count continues to pile up forcing both humans and Deamhan to pick a side. Either allow Lucius to free the Pure Ones, the first living Deamhan from Limbo, or take him out and cripple their already fragile presence in the city
The description was more than enough to bring me back into author +Isaiyan Morrison's world. Having read Deamhan just over a year ago, I have been anticipating this next book in the series. You can read my review of that here:
But for now let me go on to this seductively interesting little diddy. The book opens with a sadistically satisfying scene of the Ramanga, Silvanus, and a tasty treat brought to him by Selene with deadly consequences. The Deamhan Lucius freshly freed from limbo in Book One is on a quest to find out the origins of the Deamhan Species. So to speak. Having found himself the servants of the "Pure Ones" while captive he is on a quest to free them.
Not the best idea he's ever had, seeing as in Book one Anastasia , a Ramanga with intense loyalty to Lucius and one of those who helped free him, made a promise to a Pure One which left the taste of pure evil in her mouth like ashes on her tongue.
Since Lucius' freedom was gained Anastasia has been left behind to "cleanse" the city of Minneapolis of all Deamhan once Loyal to his betrayer Kei, who has conveniently disappeared. She does this without question. Slaughtering Deamhan and human minions alike. Leaving a bloodied mess in sanctuaries all over the city.
Until she comes across two freshly turned little girls to the Ramanga type. Knowing they were simply too young she does the only thing she can. Let's the sun have them, in an emotionally wrenching moment. This leaves a weary and unnerving feeling in the pit of her stomach. Bringing back memories of her human past and driving her to the decision that she will no longer kill innocents.
Prior to this change she was an unabashedly indiscriminate and vicious killer. Like all Ramanga, but she had built herself something of a reputation. One which was in severe jeopardy, something that the Lamia, Remy, another to help in freeing Lucius, has made a point of reminding her. Using his sensual teasing and advances to try to awaken her desires and blood lust at every turn. The two have some heated scenes that end in painfully provoked punches and the pointy end of a banister.
It's okay he survives. *Wink*
All one time members of The Brotherhood, t
he humans of the tale are still at Blind Bluff Manor, Nathan Tiernan and Veronica Austin, are still doing research trying to uncover the location of her friend and colleague Sean Fechin, who disappeared in book one. Nathan appears to be hiding some sort of illness, but as of page 131 I can't tell you what it is.
Things really start to heat up at the stopping point so I'm going to leave you now so that I can go and see how it ends. I suggest you go pick it up yourself. It's certainly a horse of a different color.
